FAQs - Plasterers in Cambridge

Stripping out damages the walls, and plastering gives you a smooth, flat surface. Without it, tiles and paint won’t sit properly, and any damage will show through.

Bathrooms have steam and splashes, so the surface needs to cope with moisture. We use boards and plaster suitable for wet areas and, behind tiles in showers, waterproofing is the key protection.

A skim coat is a thin finishing layer over sound walls. Re-plastering means taking the old plaster off and applying a new base and finish, which is needed when the wall is damaged, crumbling or damp.

Plaster needs time to dry. As a guide, 5 -7 days before tiling depending on thickness and conditions. We tell you when it’s ready, because rushing causes problems.

We don’t recommend it. Plastering over tiles is unreliable and can peel or crack. It’s better to remove the tiles, or fix new board over them where that suits the wall.

Yes. If the ceiling is damaged or you want a matching finish, we include it in your quote.

The price depends on the wall area and condition. A small bathroom (toilet and basin) typically costs from £120, medium (adding a bath) from £240 and large (with a shower) from £480.

Yes. We make good holes, cracks and uneven patches so the walls are ready, whether we’re skimming one wall or the whole room.

We don’t offer decorating, so the walls are left plastered and ready for a painter or for you. New plaster needs a thinned “mist coat” of emulsion first, and we can advise on this.

Plaster usually takes around 7-14 days to dry depending on the how thick/thin the coat is. It’s a wet trade but not dusty, and we protect floors and clean up afterwards.
